OPENING Friday, January 29th, 2010UNTITLED gallery is proud to present Line for Line, an exhibition of new works by New York artist Gordon Stevenson and curated by Rachel Lena Esterline, San Francisco's "It Girl", wardrobe stylist, and burgeoning curator.
Born, raised, and schooled in New York City, Stevenson, also known as
Baron Von Fancy, is a mixed media artist and graphic designer on the rise. With a well-received collaborative show with Robert Waltzer at the Islip Museum (Islip, NY), and a solo show at Ochi Gallery in Sun Valley, his work has been celebrated across the country. Line for Line, debuting at UNTITLED, is a series of vividly colored works of acrylic paint poured onto surfaces that range from canvas, to glass, to plexi-glass, to wood. The paintings take advantage of the physical and chemical reactions that occur when the pigment is mixed with other agents.
The moment of application, when the amplified paints meet one another, or when the paints leave the container and join the canvas, is the inspiration and point of entry for my work. My work is not about big ideas, but about exploring and interpreting common interactions such as chance versus intent or the idea of harmony versus chaos. Gordon Stevenson
